C02free

The Adelaide Festival of Ideas is proud to announce that the 2007 Festival is CO2 freeTM thanks to a partnership with Carbon Planet.

CO2 freeTM means...

Measure (your carbon footprint)
Reduce (your greenhouse gas emissions through behavioural change)
Offset (with properly certified carbon credits)

The Adelaide Festival of Ideas has undergone a greenhouse gas emissions audit to determine its carbon footprint and assess areas where this footprint can be reduced through behavioural change in subsequent events. The event resulted in 183 tonnes of greenhouse gas emissions. These emissions have been offset through the purchase of fully certified carbon credits. Key recommendations for future events include the use of road transport over air transport where possible, using green energy in venues and offices, and encouraging a reduction in use of printed programs by steering traffic to an online program.

Your impact on Global Warming:

There are greenhouse gas emissions associated with everything we consume and everything we do. These greenhouse gas emissions are the leading cause of global warming and climate change. The Adelaide Festival of Ideas urges all of it's patrons and speakers to Measure, Reduce, and Offset the greenhouse gas emissions associated with their own lives. We would like them to especially consider the transport emissions associated with attending the event. If traveling to the event locally, please ride a bike, or walk, or use public transport if coming from further afield.

If you are traveling from interstate (or overseas) by car or by plane you can offset the emissions associated with your flights and/or car at www.carbonplanet.com

Other ways you can be a planet saving super hero:

  1. Refuse those plastic shopping bags
  2. Talk to your power supplier about Green Energy and switch.
  3. Install a water saving shower head in your home
  4. Sell your car and buy a bike
  5. Wash your clothes in cold water
  6. Turn off your appliances at the wall (don't leave them on standby)
  7. Buy local, choose your greengrocer and local butcher over the supermarket, most supermarket produce has travelled a long way before it reaches the shelves.
  8. Turn off your air conditioner
  9. Say no to packaging
  10. Be the change now - reduce where you can and offset the rest with properly certified carbon credits.

Visit www.carbonplanet.com where you can learn more about global warming and the greenhouse effect, and where you can buy genuine carbon credits to eliminate your personal global warming impact. Don't forget to have a look at their bimonthly newsletter for more tips on reducing your impact on Global Warming, as well as up to date news on Global Warming happenings world wide.
